Leeds United should target Scunthorpe’s Josh Morris.

Leeds United are pushing for promotion to the Premier League, but face a big challenge to haul in either Newcastle United or Brighton for one of the automatic spots.

To do so they need to sign a game changer who can add further dynamism to an already very impressive side, and there are few better in form players in the Football League than Scunthorpe’s Josh Morris.

Morris has helped Scunthorpe to the top of League One and prising him away may not be easy. Yet backed by investment from incoming new part-owner Andrea Radrizzani, money talks.

25-year-old Morris is League One’s top goalscorer, scoring 14 goals already this season in 20 league games.

With six assists too, he has been pivotal to Scunthorpe’s success, averaging a goal every 128 minutes.

Morris has accomplished this while playing on the left wing, and could add competition for Stuart Dallas in the Leeds side, who has been troubled with injury this season.

The winger signed for Scunthorpe on a free transfer this summer after his Bradford City contract ran down, and it has been an inspired piece of business.

Letting him go would not go down well with fans of The Iron, but if a seven figure came in, it would be hard to resist for a player they picked up for nothing, and interest in his services will surely be rising already.

Leeds’ priorities this January will be to consolidate and tie up their loanees on short term deals, but they do need to add quality if they are to kick on from here.

Morris could play in the same side at current top scorer Chris Wood, and may be better acquisition than simply signing another striker to play back-up to the New Zealand international.
