A player in whom Leeds United and Burnley have been credited with an interest has signed a new long-term deal with his club.

The Oxford Mail cited Leeds and Burnley as suitors of Cameron Brannagan, the Oxford United midfielder who scored or made 14 goals in 39 games last season, earlier this week.

Brannagan’s manager, Karl Robinson, had claimed that the former Liverpool youngster would not be sold this summer, despite having entered the final year of his contract.

And Robinson looks like being true to his word, after Oxford announced a two-year extension for the player, which ties him to the Kassam Stadium until 2023.

Both Leeds, who will be looking to strengthen ahead of their return to the Premier League, and Burnley, who have seen Jeff Hendrick depart at the end of his contract, would have had good reason to pursue a deal for Brannagan.

But the extent of the pair’s interest remains to be seen – and any attempt to sign him will be harder now.
