Gary Monk’s side look good for a play-off place – even without the Belgian winger in Leeds United colours.
Leeds United are hardly short of wingers at the moment with five touchline-treading wideman on Garry Monk’s books but, in Belgian winger Anthony Limbombe, The Whites still started the 2016/17 season having missed out on one of their top attacking targets.
The Yorkshire Evening Post claimed that Leeds had targeted the quick-footed, long-range shooting NEC Nijmegen talisman since the summer of 2015 only for him to complete a move to Club Brugge in his homeland instead.
Though Limbombe, who lit up the Eredivisie in his only campaign in the Dutch top flight, has done little across The Channel to give Monk sleepless nights.
After just 14 appearances in the Jupiler League, the 22-year-old’s season is over already, ruled out for the final two months with a stomach muscle injury, Sport Witness reports.
And although Club Brugge are top of the table, ahead of Anderlecht on goal difference alone, the fact that Limbombe’s absence is unlikely to derail their title bid speaks volumes about his minimal impact in Michel Preud’homme’s side.
After all, Limbombe failed to find the back of the net in any of his 14 appearences in Brugges colours. And Leeds fans think Hadi Sacko is wasteful…
