It would seem like Ousmane Dembele is back on Michael Edwards’s radar at Liverpool.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for the Barcelona attacker quite a bit in recent years.
And according to Calciomercato in Italy, the Reds are back at the table in an effort to bring the France international – a £135 million signing by Barca in 2017 [BBC Sport] – to Anfield.
The only problem is, Liverpool should be nowhere near this.
Dembele pulled out of the squad to face Getafe with a groin injury last night [Sport] and with his record on the treatment table, Edwards could and should walk away.
Despite being only 23, the former Borussia Dortmund winger has an injury history longer than Liverpool’s list of honours and although his latest setback may not be long term, he has had his fair share of lengthy absences and this groin issue is a reminder that if Jurgen Klopp and Edwards do sign him, it’s a risk.
There’s no doubt that Dembele is a brilliant footballer and one who could get much better.
Thing is, that’ll depend on how much football he plays over the coming years and this groin problem is a reminder that he may never be fit for long enough to be somebody Liverpool could rely upon.
