The Spaniard has been in fine form for Willem II, despite cancer scare.

Newcastle United are looking at bringing in Nicolai Jorgensen this month, as Rafa Benitez looks to boost his front-line at St James’ Park. The Feyenoord striker has proving himself to be a very talented attacker during his Rotterdam stint, and at previous club FC Copenhagen.

However, looking at the current top scorers in the Eredivisie, it would not be wrong to say Newcastle might be targeting the wrong man.

The striker they should also be looking at is Willem II frontman Fran Sol. The former Real Madrid talent joined the Dutch club in 2016 and scored 10 goals for the club last season.

That however appeared to be his bedding in period. This campaign has been much more fruitful for the striker. The 25-year-old has scored 13 goals in 20 games for the club this season.

Then you have to take into account the mitigating circumstances. Not only are Willem II struggling at the wrong end of the table, unlike Jorgensen’s Feyenoord, but Sol also underwent surgery for what was feared to be testicular cancer in October, however the tumour was found to be benign. He barely missed a beat despite the scare, coming back just a few weeks later and continuing his scoring form.

He is a younger option than Jorgensen, his style of play is more suited to the Premier League and he is already proving himself something of a miracle man.

If Newcastle are going after an Eredivisie striker, it should be Sol.
