Jonjo Shelvey has admitted to Sky Sports that he wishes he didn’t leave Liverpool as early as he did.
Shelvey opted against staying at Liverpool at the age of 21, as he wanted more first-team football.
The England international had moved to the Reds as a teenager but struggled to break into their first-team and ultimately felt that a move away was best for his development.
Unfortunately for Shelvey he has never managed to work his way up to playing for a team as big as Liverpool again.

And Shelvey admits that he thinks he left Anfield too early in his career now.
“When you’re playing once and then not playing for six games, I don’t care what any footballer says, you don’t feel involved. You don’t feel part of the team,” Shelvey said.
“I think that was the feeling I wanted but, in hindsight, should I have stayed? Probably, yeah. Even if it was only for another year or two, just to see how things changed. But it is what it is at the end of the day.
Shelvey made 69 appearances for Liverpool in his three year stay at the club, but that was not enough to convince him to stay on.
The £12 million (Sky) playmaker opted to make a move to Swansea City, and he has since gone on to spend the last five years at Newcastle.
Shelvey has played a key role for the Magpies this term, and currently sits in second place in Steve Bruce’s side’s scoring charts, with five goals to his name.
