Newcastle now look set to sign Anthony Gordon from Everton – a decision which Kieran Trippier may have something to say about.

What’s the story?

Well, the 21-year-old has undergone a medical on Tyneside ahead of a £45m move from Everton, after missing a number of training sessions in a bid to force his move to Newcastle.

At the time of writing, it seems an official announcement is just hours away, although this decision from Eddie Howe may not go down too well with Trippier or Fabian Schar.

Earlier this season, when Newcastle recorded a 1-0 win over Everton at St James’ Park, Gordon and Trippier were involved in a heated confrontation after the Toffees No.10 went down softly inside the box.

Trippier – who cost Newcastle £12m – confronted the England Under-21 international as he seemingly accused him of diving, which sparked an angry reaction as you can see below.

Schar then came to the defence of Trippier, aggressively shoving Gordon away numerous times before Nick Pope also ran over to get involved.

Trippier and Gordon also came to blows in the 3-1 win for Newcastle over Everton at St James’ Park last season, after a strong challenge from the latter led to the England international having a little kick out at his calf.

Trippier should welcome Gordon at Newcastle

In our view, Gordon’s fiery side is a good thing, and Trippier should welcome it at Newcastle.

Howe is the type of manager who will be able to help the 21-year-old channel his aggression into positive energy out on the pitch.

Gordon is also the type of player who opposition fans tend to dislike, but those on his side adore him – such as Wilfried Zaha at Crystal Palace.

Trippier is experienced enough to put his two clashes with Gordon behind him, and as a leader amongst the squad, he should also be helping the youngster channel the fire in his belly into something productive.
