A reported Norwich City and Newcastle United target was left out of Celtic’s squad today.
Celtic powerhouse Kristoffer Ajer has been linked with a move to both Premier League sides this summer.
In late May, Newcastle were reported by The Northern Echo to have earmarked the towering Norwegian – who stands at 6’5 – as a potential target.
More recently, newly-promoted Premier League side Norwich have been linked, but the Canaries won’t budge on the £12 million valuation and will not offer more than £10 million.
And it seems possible that there’s a bit of movement on the Ajer front.
That’s because Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou left him out of the squad entirely for this afternoon’s friendly with Charlton Athletic.
What does this mean?
Well, if you’re a Celtic fan who likes Ajer as a player, it doesn’t look great to be totally honest.
It’s even worse when you consider the fact that the 23-year-old was training earlier in the week.
Former Australia boss Postecoglou is a no-nonsense character and it seems plausible that he would only utilise players that he thinks that he could use when the real season kicks off in a few weeks.
And if that’s the case, Ajer’s absence speaks volumes for how likely – or unlikely – it is that he’ll still be a Bhoy by then.
