Some Newcastle United supporters are excited by hearing Kieran Trippier is keen to join the St James’s Park club.
Newcastle have been linked with a move for the Atletico Madrid right-back quite a lot in recent months.
And it would appear as if the Magpies are winning a competitive race to sign the former Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley defender.
According to The Athletic, the 31-year-old is willing to join the North-East club in January and reunite with Eddie Howe, whom he played under at Burnley.
Saudi Public Investment Fund could have a busy January as they look to bankroll Newcastle’s escape from the Premier League’s relegation zone.
And as things stand, it looks very probable that Trippier could be the first signing of this new era on Tyneside.
Here’s how Newcastle supporters reacted to what The Athletic reported today:
Closing in?
Well, it certainly seems like United are going to get this one done – and what a first signing it could prove to be.
Newcastle are second from bottom in the Premier League and it looks a tall order for Howe to keep the Magpies up.
Without investment, it seems an impossible task, but Trippier is someone with 107 Premier League outings under his belt.
The England international, who scored in a World Cup semi-final in 2018, also has 18 assists and could be a massive help in terms of defence and attack for the 43-year-old manager.
