Leeds United’s failure to land Michael Frey may be causing some regret at Elland Road right now after his blistering start to the new campaign.
One that got away?
Frey leads the scoring charts in Belgium, where he has hit 12 goals in 10 games to start the new season.
His brilliant run of form comes just two years after Leeds pushed to sign him in 2019.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side identified Frey’s talents while he was at Fenerbahce, the Yorkshire Evening Post reported, but they were unable to get a deal over the line.
Leeds still thriving
Leeds have hardly suffered as a result of missing out – they have since gone on to win promotion and then cope brilliantly in their first season in the Premier League.
The Whites have also brought in Rodrigo to bolster their striking ranks, while Patrick Bamford has gone from strength to strength.

However, Frey’s goalscoring record for Royal Antwerp this season goes to prove his talents.
His aerial ability, combined with his lethal finishing, could have been very useful for Leeds, even if he was only used from the bench as an impact player.
Indeed there are few strikers currently in better form that the Swiss targetman right across European football, and if he keeps his current form up he may be reflected on as one that got away for Leeds.
