Big Arsenal defender Zech Medley appears to be growing into his role on loan.
The 20-year-old powerhouse, who stands at 6’5, had a difficult opening few weeks at Gillingham and was ultimately dropped by manager Steve Evans.
But Medley, who began his career at Arsenal, has been back in the first XI as of late and today he appeared to have a very solid game at centre-back.
Evans’s side cruised to a 3-1 win at home to Oxford United.
And Medley played a big role as to why his side only conceded the once.
The young colossus managed 12 clearances from defence inside his 90 minutes on the field [WhoScored] – the second-highest of any player – and also boasted two interceptions.
But Medley also proved that he has an eye for a pass, attempting 12 long balls and eight of them were accurate – one of which was considered a key pass, meaning it led to a chance.
His confidence must’ve taken a knock earlier in the campaign after finding himself on the bench.
But he has certainly shown a decent bit of mental strength to bounce back as well as he has and he, like his team-mates, fully deserves the win this afternoon.
