Back in the summer, Goal revealed that Arsenal were interested in signing Axel Disasi from Ligue 1 side Stade de Reims.
In the end, the 22-year-old remained in France, joining AS Monaco on August 7th after a €14 million (£12.5 million) fee was agreed between the two clubs, according to L’Equipe.
Now, just over three months into life at Monaco, Disasi has shown Arsenal what they missed out on by being handed a position of authority by Niko Kovač.
Despite playing just eight games for the club, the Gonesse-born defender has been handed the vice-captaincy by Kovač, which speaks volumes about Disasi’s maturity and leadership qualities.
In truth, Arsenal probably won’t be crying themselves to sleep over this news, as their signing of another centre-back in Gabriel Magalhães has proven successful so far.

However, not many 22-year-olds can walk into a new club and claim a position of such authority just months after joining.
Disasi must’ve made a real impression around the Stade Louis-II.

For just £12.5 million, perhaps it might’ve been worth Arsenal taking the former Paris FC man under their wing, especially given the advancing years of David Luiz and Sokratis.
Mikel Arteta already has two potential stars of the future in Gabriel and William Saliba at centre-back, and a possibly world-class trio could’ve been completed had Disasi moved to the Emirates Stadium.
