Some comments from Dejan Lovren has Liverpool fans talking on Twitter.
The Croatia international told Jim White on talkSPORT yesterday that he ‘could do a job’ for the Reds this season, in light of their defensive crisis.
Liverpool had to go on a late trolley dash on transfer deadline day on February 1 after Joel Matip was ruled out for the season, joining Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez on the long-term injured list.
All three are centre-backs and even worse, they’re the only recognised and senior players in their position after the Premier League champions failed to replace Lovren.
The former Southampton stalwart was sold to Zenit St Petersburg last summer in an £11 million deal [The Echo].
And Lovren, by his own admission, could’ve been of some value to Jurgen Klopp this season but here’s how some Liverpool fans reacted to his claim on Twitter:
It’s a frosty reception but he’s right – he would’ve come in quite handy.
Yes, he’s had his fair share of stinkers for Liverpool, but there’s no denying that he’s a better centre-back than Jordan Henderson – a midfielder – or Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips.
Lovren alongside Fabinho looks, on paper, a decent centre-back pairing under the circumstances.
