Celtic earned an impressive victory over Anderlecht in the Champions League this week, with their attacking players clinical in the final third.

Behind their success was a superb defensive performance, with the back four nullifying Anderlecht’s attack.

Integral to Celtic’s victory was centre-back Jozo Simunovic, who was simply outstanding alongside Dedryck Boyata.

Simunovic touched the ball 116 times, more than any other player on the pitch.

11 of these touches were clearances, with the other three members of Celtic’s back four amassing 16 combined.

He won one tackle and made one interception, and Simunovic did this while giving away just one foul over the 90 minutes.

Simunovic’s passing was outstanding for a centre-back, completing 95 per cent, even more impressive when considering the high number of touches he had.

The Croatia international defender is building a strong partnership at the back with Boyata, although they will be handed a far sterner test up against Bayern Munich in their next Champions League game.

Simunovic had a torrid time against PSG in their opener, and this was the perfect way to bounce back and show what he is capable of.
