Kaveh Solhekol has claimed on the Transfer Show on Sky Sports (25/08/21 at 7:50 pm) that he has been told that Harry Kane went about leaving Tottenham this summer ‘the wrong way’
The Sky reporter also claimed that he has been told ‘don’t make billionaires angry’ and ‘don’t make wealthy owners angry’, as he was seemingly making reference to Tottenham’s majority owner, Joe Lewis.
The people right at the top of Tottenham’s tree are Lewis himself and chairman, Daniel Levy.
Whilst both haven’t uttered a word about Kane’s situation this summer, the duo would have no doubt played a major role and had their say on this matter behind the scenes at Hotspur Way.
Given that it was Manchester City who wanted to purchase Kane, then it would have been interesting to see what the feeling was between Lewis and the Abu Dhabi-based group that own the Premier League champions.
Ex-Spurs boss Harry Redknapp claimed that both Lewis and the Man City owners know one another and did business when he was manager of the club.
Well, in the end, all of that drama has resulted in Kane staying put, as Solhekol shared what he has been told about the whole saga after it came to an end on Wednesday.
“I am told Harry went about leaving Spurs in the wrong way,” said Solhekol. “The moral of the story is don’t make billionaires angry. Don’t make wealthy owners angry.
“Interestingly, people at the very highest level at Spurs, I am being told, they have some sympathy for Harry Kane’s predicament. But everyone at the club wants to play in the Champions League and win trophies.
“I am also told that Manchester City weren’t willing to make the kind of offer, of £150 million, which would tempt Spurs.
“Man City’s highest offer was around £80 million, plus players. Kane’s camp thought that was a fair offer, but Spurs were never going to sell at that level. Kane could have got the move if things had been done differently this summer.”
If those in the Etihad boardroom have learnt one valuable lesson then that’s not to mess with Levy.
In truth, if Spurs are in the same position this time next summer then he might actually get his move – Luka Modric, Gareth Bale and Dimitar Berbatov all did.
But this is one big last chance for Levy to push Spurs back to those Champions League places and help them win a trophy.
