The goalkeeper could be sold by Newcastle United this summer.

It is looking like Newcastle United may be looking to move on Karl Darlow in the summer. The Northern Echo is reporting that Rafa Benitez is looking to move on the player as he is not convinced he has what it takes to succeed in the Premier League. He is likely to depart with fellow goalkeepers Tim Krul and Matz Sels.

Darlow was a regular in the Championship last season as Newcastle won the title, but he did lose his place to the returning Rob Elliot toward the end of the season. That said, plenty of Championship teams would love to have him on board and Aston Villa should be one of them.

The 26-year-old is a former Villan. He was with the club for eight years until he was released in 2006, aged 16. He went on to become a Nottingham Forest talent before his move to Newcastle in 2015.

Aston Villa would love to rectify a mistake from 11 years ago and sign the player, with a new stopper needed at Villa Park. Steve Bruce would like to have Sam Johnstone back on loan from Manchester United but that deal is not yet done and Darlow is a more than able alternative.

After playing 36 times for the Magpies last season he has shown he is capable of performing in the Championship and Aston Villa would be doing good business if they bought this player back, 11 years after they released him.
