Kolo Toure is 36 years of age and is past his prime, but he has shown yet again this season that he can be an important player if used properly.

Celtic signed Toure in the summer of 2016 on a free transfer following his departure from Liverpool at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.

The Ivory Coast international defender was expected to add experience and maturity to the squad at Celtic Park, and he has done just that.

The 36-year-old centre-back may have managed to feature in just 14 competitive matches in all competitions so far this season, but his leadership and maturity have been invaluable.

Despite making just 11 starts in all competitions for Celtic so far this season, Toure has shown that he can be an important figure for the Hoops.

The former Arsenal centre-back’s current contract with Arsenal runs out at the end of the season, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

Celtic, though, have the option to extend his deal by one more year, according to the club’s official website, and it would make sense for them to exercise that option.
