The England international twisted his ankle early on in the tie and may miss the remainder of the season.
So, it was a massive bonus for Spurs to see their attacking reinforcements find the net.
Heung-min Son bagged a hat-trick and Vincent Janssen finally scored his first goal for the club from open play.
Janssen joined Spurs in the summer for a fee, according to Sky Sports, in the region of £18.6 million. But the Dutchman has struggled for form since making his move from AZ Alkmaar. He had an impressive record of 30 goals in 43 appearances last season but even than it took him a while to get going.
So, has he just entered his usual golden period of form?
After this time last season Janssen went on to play nine more times. He scored an incredible 11 times during that run.
That included a goal for the Netherlands against England.

A similar run of form seems unlikely, considering the difficulties he has had thriving in English football.
But if he could find something similar, Tottenham could still mount a title challenge.
