Angelo Ogbonna has been speaking about his West Ham teammate Nayef Aguerd after the 1-0 win over Silkeborg in UEFA Conference League action.

The Morocco international finally made his competitive debut for the east Londoners following a nightmarish start to life in England, which saw him require surgery on his ankle just weeks after a £30m move from Rennes.

Now, however, Aguerd is finally fit and ready for selection at the London Stadium, where he looks set to become a real leader for West Ham on the basis of Ogbonna’s comments.

Aguerd already showing leadership qualities at West Ham

Well, the £10m man interestingly revealed that Aguerd is already “shouting at everyone” around West Ham.

As quoted by the West Ham official website, Ogbonna said: “He has a very bright future at West Ham United. He can read the game really well. He is really composed on the ball. He is shouting at everyone already. He is a new leader.”

That is very interesting to hear.

You would assume that a new arrival would be fairly shy as they look to ease themselves into life at a new club, especially one who has never actually played his football in England before.

It has been a complete change of culture for Aguerd, who has spent the last four years playing in France, but it seems his uprooting – nor his injury – has had any negative effect on his leadership skills or confidence.

Aguerd shone on West Ham debut

It may have taken longer than expected for Aguerd to make his competitive debut for West Ham, although it was worth the wait.

The 26-year-old helped the Hammers keep a clean sheet against Silkeborg, maintaining their 100% record in the UEFA Conference League with five wins from five outings in Group B.

As FotMob shows, Aguerd was imperious against the Danish side, making 11 ball recoveries while also showing off his progressive passing.

The West Ham No.27 impressively made five passes into the final third to get the Irons on the attack, which is exactly what David Moyes will want to see from his defenders.

Hopefully, Aguerd avoids any further injury setbacks, and goes on to have a fantastic career at the London Stadium.
