On Saturday, Arsenal suffered their third successive defeat in the Premier League, as Southampton recorded a 1-0 win at St Mary’s.

After full-time, Nathan Redmond was spotted on the south coast signing autographs for supporters, where he rubbed salt in the wounds for Arsenal fans.

What’s the story?

Well, one supporter decided to film the £10m man engaging with fans, before asking him how it felt to beat the Gunners.

Redmond didn’t seem too bothered about the win, as he claimed: “It’s alright, they’re not very good.”

Now, the Arsenal fans certainly won’t be happy about this.

In our view, Redmond is just having a laugh with the Southampton supporters, and we wouldn’t take his comments too seriously.

After all, the Saints are sat 12th in the Premier League with 39 points to their name, whereas the Gunners are sixth with 54 points.

Therefore, if Redmond was being serious, then Southampton also aren’t “very good” either judging by the table.

Arsenal needed to beat Southampton

Had Mikel Arteta picked up three points against Ralph Hasenhuttl, Arsenal would currently be tied on 57 points with Tottenham in fourth, while also having a game in hand.

Now, however, they sit sixth, and need to win that game in hand just to get back on level terms with Spurs.

It’s not the greatest position to be in with just seven games remaining, especially as the likes of Takehiro Tomiyasu, Thomas Partey and Kieran Tierney are all missing.

Arsenal would’ve made life a lot easier for themselves had they performed better against Southampton, or against Brighton the week before.

Now, Arteta has to find a way to reenergise his squad, or they could be facing yet another year outside of the Champions League.
