Nathan Redmond should complete his move to Turkish giants Besiktas today with Premier League outfit Southampton willing to let the veteran winger leave on an initial loan deal, as reported by Sabah

There are a few certainties in life; Death, taxes, and Besiktas offering an escape route to a Premier League footballer looking to break free of his shackles.

Cenk Tosun, Dele Alli and Arthur Masuaku all joined the Super Lig challengers this summer. So did Wout Weghorst, after suffering relegation with Burnley. Besiktas showed an interest in Aston Villa misfit Morgan Sanson too.

And, according to reports, Nathan Redmond will be joining Alli and co in Istanbul sooner rather than later. A deal could even be sealed as early as Tuesday night. Redmond is also on the radar of Fenerbahce and Galatasaray, but negotiations with capital city neighbours Besiktas have now reached ‘the final stage’.

Head coach Valerien Ismael and general director Ceyhun Kazanci deserve plenty of credit, convincing Redmond to choose Besiktas over a number of domestic rivals. If you’ll allow us, one suspects the former Birmingham City forward will get a good reception at the Vodafone Arena.

Nathan Redmond is leaving Southampton for Turkey

Redmond, Sabah add, could be handed a one-year contract extension by Southampton before leaving St Mary’s on loan. His current deal expires in July 2023.

This would allow Southampton to command a larger fee for Redmond in a future window should he jump-start his stalling career in Turkey. If they were to sell the former England U21 international now, they would recoup only a fraction of the £10 million fee they paid Norwich back in 2016.

“There are still some windows open somewhere,” explains head coach Ralph Hasenhuttl. “So some players can still leave. If not, we have to try and give them the respect they deserve.”

The Turkish window closes on Thursday.
