Antonio Conte confirmed on Wednesday that he brought virtually his whole squad for Tottenham Hotspur’s Europa Conference League clash in Slovenia tonight.

But he didn’t bring a certain Jack Clarke.

And at this point, it makes total sense for the 21-year-old – who had a birthday yesterday – to try and leave Spurs in January.

Chairman Daniel Levy spent £10 million on bringing in Clarke from Leeds United back in 2019.

But the youngster – who’s had three Championship loans since – still hasn’t made his Premier League debut.

At 21, he ought to be developed enough to take on the Slovenian outfit tonight.

But Conte’s decision to omit him indicates that the Italian isn’t convinced about the English winger just yet.

And really, there’s no reason for Clarke to stick around beyond January.

The former Leeds youth is honestly no closer to Tottenham’s senior squad than he was in 2019 – and that ought to tell you all you need to know.

Clarke could be an absolute world beater at some point in the future.

But he just isn’t getting the education he needs at Tottenham and for the sake of his career, asking Levy for permission to quit this winter is the best course of action.
