In less than 24 hours, the January transfer window will slam shut, with the likes of Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Watford potentially being involved in some action.

Ben Gibson to Aston Villa?

Sky Sports report that the Championship club have made a loan bid for Burnley’s experienced centre-back Ben Gibson, with a view to a permanent transfer.

But Clarets boss Sean Dyche has issued a five-word response to Villa’s interest in his player, with Thursday’s 11 pm deadline looming ever closer.

Sky Sports report that Atlanta United midfielder Miguel Almiron is edging closer to joining Newcastle United in a club-record deal.

It is said the 24-year-old has arrived on Tyneside for his medical as the Paraguay international will move to St James’ Park in a £21 million deal.

Club legend Shearer has commented on his potential arrival and stated two reasons why owner Mike Ashley has sanctioned such a big transfer.

Defence is not the only area Dean Smith’s side are looking to bolster, with the midfield another area they are looking to strengthen before the deadline.

Sky Sports claim that Villa are keen on adding Watford midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah to their squad, with the departure of Yannick Bolasie freeing up wages for the club.

England manager Gareth Southgate, who handed Chalobah his senior debut in October, had some very positive words to say about the former Chelsea man.
