Well, it looks like Newcastle United’s third January signing is going to be a big one.
Widespread reports indicate that Newcastle are set to bring Bruno Guimaraes to St James’s Park.
According to The Athletic, Guimaraes is undergoing a medical in Ecuador ahead of a £30 million transfer to Tyneside.
This is exciting because the Lyon playmaker is obviously brilliant and has been courted by bigger clubs than the Magpies, like Arsenal for instance.
However, it’s extra exciting if you look at this statistics from his most recent game.
The 24-year-old Brazilian stole the show last Friday as Lyon beat Saint-Etienne 1-0, going into the winter break in style.
Guimaraes managed 103 touches of the football – more than anyone else on the field – and also clocked a passing success rate of 85 percent [WhoScored].
But this isn’t strictly a flare player, evident by the fact he also completed seven tackles, illustrating that he isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty and do the defensive work, too.
And that’s precisely what Newcastle need, an all-rounder to boost their hopes of staying in the Premier League.
United are 18th in the standings but with an addition like this to midfield, well the odds of Eddie Howe’s outfit being relegated raise substantially if and when this gets over the line.
