Crystal Palace have been linked with a move for the free agent.
According to a report from the Sun (print edition 22nd July 2018, page 61), Crystal Palace are keen on signing Yaya Toure on a free transfer this summer, and despite the obvious financial risk involved in bringing the Ivorian to Selhurst Park, he could very well turn out to be an inspired signing for the Eagles.
The 35-year-old will command a salary of around £100k-a-week, and that is a lot for a club like Palace to lay out on one player.
Toure is also well past his best, and many may view his potential arrival at Selhurst Park as an extremely risky move from Palace.
He might still have a lot to offer Roy Hodgson’s side, however.
Toure would add a much needed physical presence to the Eagles’ midfield, and his composed nature when in possession of the football, combined with an impressive array of passing could very well help the south London outfit improve upon the fluidity of their play through the middle of the park.
The Ivory Coast international joined Manchester City from Barcelona in the summer of 2010, and went on to chalk up 79 goals and 50 assists in 316 outings for the Citizens.
He would provide Palace with a real goal threat from the middle of the park, and would offer Hodgson an entirely different option this season.
The risk involved is obvious, however, considering Toure’s age, and his waning powers, but it might just be one that is worth taking for Palace.
