Liverpool is the ‘bigger club’ but Premier League rivals Chelsea may need Brighton and Hove Albion star Moises Caicedo more.
That is the view of Darren Bent, the former England international giving his view on a saga which could took another Shyamalan-style twist on Thursday, Liverpool suddenly throwing their hat into the ring while attempting to hi-jack Chelsea’s long-running pursuit of the highly-coveted Ecuador international (The Telegraph).
Whether either club is willing – or able – to meet Brighton and Hove Albion’s eye-watering £100 million asking price remains to be seen.

Bent, meanwhile, believes Moises Caicedo would face a tough decision choosing between two clubs in the midst of a rebuild. Neither of whom are capable of offering Champions League football at the present moment.
Chelsea vs Liverpool for Moises Caicedo
“Of course, Liverpool is a bigger club,” Bent tells talkSPORT (10 August, 4pm). “But when you go to recent history, Chelsea have won a lot more than Liverpool.
“It’s a difficult one. (Jurgen) Klopp is better than (Mauricio) Pochettino. He’s one of the best in the world. An elite manager. (But Liverpool) is a club in transition.
“There’s not too much between the two clubs.”
Bent argues that a Chelsea side who have lost Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic in recent windows need Caicedo more than their rivals from Merseyside.
It’s fair to say those of a Liverpool persuasion might not share that perspective; Klopp himself admitting that Anfield is home to not a single holding midfielder these days following the departures of both Fabinho and Jordan Henderson to Saudi Arabia.
“Liverpool is a fantastic football and the atmosphere in that place is incredible. I think it comes down to personal preference,” Bent adds.

“You look at Chelsea when they had the likes of Jorginho, Kante, Mount and Kovacic. They need another body in there.
“If you ask me today, I would say Chelsea need him more.”
Liverpool are still awaiting their third signing of the window, five weeks after Dominik Szoboszlai’s arrival from RB Leipzig. They have had three bids rejected by Southampton for Romeo Lavia.
