Back in January, the transfer window was dominated by Tottenham, Paris Saint-Germain and Dele Alli.
The BBC claimed that Mauricio Pochettino wanted a reunion with the £100,000-a-week man in Paris.
However, The Telegraph later revealed that Daniel Levy was unwilling to sanction an exit for Alli, in fear that it would leave José Mourinho’s squad too thin.
That was despite the fact the 37-cap England international was keen on the move, as Goal revealed.
Now, as we near the end of the campaign, the Tottenham No.20 must be absolutely fuming.
Why? Well, just look at Jesse Lingard’s form for West Ham.
The 28-year-old has six goals and three assists for the Hammers in just eight Premier League appearances, after Manchester United granted him a January exit from Old Trafford.
As a result, Lingard has worked his way back into Gareth Southgate’s plans, and is in contention to play at EURO 2021 according to Sky Sports.
In our view, Alli is probably sat at home thinking: “That could’ve been me.”
Lingard has completely rejuvenated his career, whereas Alli’s continues to stall under Mourinho.
If Spurs had granted his wishes in January, he might’ve had a similar impact to Lingard over in Paris, and he too could now be back in Southgate’s thoughts.
Sadly, that isn’t how things worked out.
With each passing game in which Lingard shines for David Moyes, Alli must be getting more and more angry – if so, we don’t blame him one bit.
