Hugo Lloris is now open to leaving Tottenham after the Frenchman was offered the chance to treble his salary in Saudi Arabia.
The 36-year-old still has 12 months remaining on his contract at Spurs, but is considering a new challenge.
According to The Times, Lloris will wait to see who Daniel Levy hires as a replacement for Antonio Conte before making a decision, and is set to hold talks with the 61-year-old over his future.
What’s the story?
Well, talk of Lloris potentially leaving N17 comes amid a difficult time for the France international.
The Tottenham No.1 last appeared for Spurs in the humiliating 6-1 defeat to Newcastle, in which he conceded five goals within 21 minutes before Cristian Stellini substituted him at half-time.
After that embarrassing result, Lloris was told he “has to go” by Stephen Warnock live on Sky Sports.
The 41-year-old said: “The goalkeeper has to go as well. He’s been great for Spurs and he has been incredible for France over the years, but some of the goals he concedes and the mistakes that he makes are poor.
“For his standards and what he is meant to represent, the captain of the club and things like that. He has seen his best days.”
The Times believe Lloris has been offered the chance to earn £200,000-a-week more than his current £100,000-a-week salary in Saudi Arabia, where Cristiano Ronaldo has already been lured.
Lloris & Tottenham must part ways
In our view, it is time for Lloris and Spurs to go their separate ways.
As Warnock states, the Lyon-born glovesman often lets Tottenham down, and even if he was a bit more reliable, it is time to find a younger option anyway as he turns 37 in December.
Lloris seems to be tempted by a move to Saudi Arabia, and Spurs can surely use his £100,000-a-week wages to find a goalkeeper of a very high standard.
