Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris turned down the chance to move to Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United on the final day of the summer transfer window, according to a report.
The Times has reported that Newcastle United wanted to sign Hugo Lloris from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Friday.
Newcastle United tried to sign Hugo Lloris from Tottenham Hotspur
Newcastle made a move to bring the £100,000-a-week (Spotrac) goalkeeper to St. James’ Park on a season-long loan deal.
Lloris is under contract at Tottenham until the summer of 2024.
According to The Times, there would have been no loan fee involved in the deal.
Lloris decided to turn down a potential move to Newcastle, who are playing in the UEFA Champions League this season and are also aiming to finish in the top four of the Premier League table yet again.

We are not surprised to hear that Lloris rejected a potential move to Newcastle.
Nick Pope is the number one goalkeeper at Newcastle at the moment.
That is unlikely to change anytime soon.
Yes, Lloris has experience of playing in the UEFA Champions League, but he is 36 now and Newcastle manager Eddie Howe was unlikely to give him much playing time.
Lloris would have been a back-up goalkeeper at Newcastle.
There was no reason for the goalkeeper to join the Magpies even on a loan deal if he was just going to warm the bench week in and week out.
