Newcastle United midfielder starred in the win at Wigan.
Newcastle United reclaimed top spot in the Championship with a fairly comfortable 2-0 win at Wigan Athletic on Wednesday night.
Mohamed Diame opened the scoring against his former club on 26 minutes, before Christian Atsu lashed home a vicious strike with 12 minutes to go.
It was Diame’s first goal in 15 Championship games this season and the Senegal midfielder looks to be improving massively.

He was superb in the 4-0 thrashing of Birmingham City at the weekend and the Magpies ace was similarly as destructive against the Latics.
The 29-year-old, a £4.5 million signing from Hull City, won all three of his tackles and managed to win nine ball recoveries for Newcastle – the most of any of Rafael Benitez’s side last night.
| Position | Team | Total Tackle | Won Tackle | Ball Recovery | Touches | Interception | Duel Won | Appearances | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mohamed Diamé | MF | Newcastle | 3 | 3 | 9 | 51 | 1 | 9 | 1 | 90 |

In addition to that, he also won nine duels – only bettered by Isaac Hayden, with 11 – and one interception in what was a fine overall performance from the big man.
He played a big role in helping Hull to the Premier League last season and Newcastle fans will hope that he is finally beginning to show that form for their side following a rough few months.
