Everton’s start to life under Rafa Benitez has been an extremely successful one so far, and Jamie Carragher has a theory as to why.
Speaking on Monday Night Football following the Toffee’s 3-1 win over Burnley, the Liverpool icon made the point that the Everton boss is flourishing because of his understanding of what the supporters want.
Moreover, Carragher pinned Benitez and his affiliation with the city of Liverpool as a key reason why the Spaniard has managed to get Everton ticking in such a short period of time.
After all, Benitez was manager of Liverpool in the mid-2000s and won the UEFA Champions League with the Reds. And for Carragher, this understanding of what Everton fans want after living in the city has helped the former Newcastle boss.
Carragher said via the Daily Mail: “Rafa knows the type of football now, other managers I’m not sure.
“The fact he’s managed Liverpool and has been around the city, he knows what Everton fans want more than any other manager that’s been brought in.”
Indeed, it is an interesting idea as to why Benitez has hit the ground running with Everton. Yet supporters on social media agree with Carragher’s hypothesis.
