Former West Ham midfielder Valon Behrami put in a battling, if unsuccessful, performance against England.
Former West Ham midfielder Valon Behrami put in a battling performance for Switzerland as they lost 2-0 to England on Monday night.
Behrami, now a Hamburg player, featured for all 90 minutes against an England midfield containing Jack Wilshere, Fabian Delph and Jordan Henderson.
And in doing so he racked up an impressive statistic, making a total of 10 tackles against the Three Lions.
That is a figure higher than any midfielder has made in the Premier League in a single game this season to date.
Behrami completed 86 per cent of his passes on the night, and made two interceptions during the contest.
The 29-year-old played for Napoli last season before joining Bundesliga side Hamburg, but his display at St Jakob Park last night showed once again that Premier League sides may have missed a trick in not pursuing his signature.
West Ham paid £5 million for Behrami in 2008, but his time at Upton Park was beset by a serious ACL injury, and he was sold to Fiorentina after two-and-a-half seasons.
