England have been knocked out of Euro 2016 at the last sixteen stage after defeat to Iceland.
Iceland ran out as 2-1 winners in the game after goals from Ragnar Sigurdsson and Kolbeinn Sigthorsson saw them to the most unlikely of victories.
The game had started well for England as a penalty from Wayne Rooney saw them take the early lead they had craved.
It was short lived though as Sigurdsson bundled home a long throw in and then Joe Hart failed to keep out Sigthorsson’s effort after more terrible England defending.
The Three Lions could not find a way back after that as they failed to properly test the Iceland goal throughout the rest of the game.
The loss brought about an end to their run in Euro 2016 in what has been a largely lacklustre tournament in general.
The draw with Russia in the opening game proved to be the game that would set the standard for what was to come, with the win over Wales proving the only bright spot.
