Southampton fans will perhaps remember Iago Falque as the promising Tottenham Hotspur loanee who played 56 minutes of a 2-0 defeat to Leicester City and was never seen again.

Five years on, Falque’s career has well and truly taken off, with his short Torino career yielding 10 goals and five assists from 26 appearances.

In actual fact, the Spaniard has been rather good for some time, starring for Genoa to earn a move to Roma in 2015.

The Giallorossi finally parted company with Falque in January this year, when Torino turned his deal permanent. However, with the Granata 10th in the Serie A standings – having failed to perform, collectively, as well as some of their individuals this season – it might not be long before others come sniffing.

And with Southampton’s Dusan Tadic critical of manager Claude Puel this week (The Sun), the Saints may be one of those considering an approach.

A strong left-footer, who can play on either flank as well as in the number 10 position, Falque would be an almost like-for-like replacement for the Serbian, should he be banished for his recent outburst.

And though they say you should never go back, Southampton could do worse than to make an exception for the in-form 27-year-old.

Should Southampton consider bringing Falque back to St Mary’s?
