Wolves, Swansea City, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United stoppers feature in the top 10.

Statistics can be intriguing and revealing at the same time, when somebody asks you who is the best goalkeeper in the Premier League, how do you assess it in your head?

Do you look at it in the same way as a striker, who is judged on the amount of goals he scores, or a creative midfielder, by his assists or chances created.

Often when it comes to goalkeepers, saves are not a decisive factor in our decisions. This is because a goalkeeper in an under-performing side would be asked to make more saves than one in a top side.

Nevertheless, two of the top three save makers, do come from promoted sides in Swansea and Norwich, but ones flying far above the relegation scrap, with the Swans in 8th and Norwich 14th.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Brad Friedel features in the top five, followed not far behind by Manchester United’s David de Gea, who has missed several games through rotation.

If you ask people who are the league’s best goalkeepers, a straw pole would likely include Tim Krul, Michel Vorm, even Wojciech Sczcesny. The Arsenal goalkeeper does not feature in the top 10, making 65 saves in the league, ranking him 16th.

How many people would say Wayne Hennessey is the league’s best goalkeeper?
