Manchester City had hoped to sell Carlos Tevez by deadline day and spend some money on a new striker. Neither happened and they snapped up midfielder David Pizarro instead. What do we know about him?

1) Pizarro has played for three Italian clubs, having most success at Roma where he played 142 times scoring on 14 occasions.

2) He only appeared seven times in Serie A this season, and did not score any goals, and has not played since October because of injury.

3) Pizarro’s loan deal is easy to understand. It has not always been that way; in 2006 Roma and Inter shared his contract rights, each owning 50 per cent of him.

4) He played the full 90 minutes for Roma in their humiliating 7-1 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford in 2007.

5) He is a Chile international midfielder, making his debut in 1999 and has scored three goals in 36 games for his country.

6) The midfielder has played under Roberto Mancini before, as part of his title winning squad at Inter Milan

7) During his only season at Inter Milan he won three trophies, the Scudetto, Coppa Italia, and the Italian Supercup.

8) He competed with former Manchester United and Chelsea midfielder Juan Sebastien Veron for a place in midfield.

9) He has never played at a World Cup, retiring from international football in 2005 after the country failed to qualify for the 2006 finals in Germany, and did not come out of retirement for the country’s appearance in 2010.

10) While Pizarro and Mancini always had a positive relationship, he admits he never saw eye to eye with former Roma boss Claudio Ranieri, literally. “He never looked me in the eye”, said the Chilean of the former Chelsea boss.

Do you think Pizarro can help swing the title in City’s favour?
