Dion Dublin has praised Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn on Football Focus on the BBC by comparing his price-tag to that of Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba.

The former Villa star, who now works as a pundit for BBC Sport, praised McGinn for his impact at the Villans.

Villa paid Hibernian £2.5 million to sign the Scotland international midfielder in the summer of 2018, according to The Daily Star.

By contract, United paid Juventus €110 million (£94.76) million to bring back Pogba to Old Trafford, as reported by The Guardian in the summer of 2016.

Dublin said on Football Focus on the BBC: “That is now 30 odd Paul Pogbas. So you could have 32 John McGinns on the pitch and 1 Paul Pogba. I wonder who would win that game.”

The BBC pundit added: “By the way, Paul Pogba is world class.”

Big player for Aston Villa

The point that Dublin was trying to make was the value for money that Villa got from signing McGinn.

Dublin may have got his math slightly wrong – for the price of one Pogba, you could get 38 McGinns, not 32 – but one does get his point.

Pogba is a better player than the Scotland international and has won the World Cup with France, but the 26-year-old has been superb for the Villans.

The midfielder imposes himself in the middle of the park, protects the back-line, makes good passes and drives the team forward as well.
