Not many footballers have divided the Arsenal fanbase like Olivier Giroud did during his spell in North London under Arsene Wenger.
The France international spent five-and-a-half years on the Gunners’ books, leaving for Chelsea in winter of 2018.
And although a lot of Arsenal supporters appreciated his ability to blend in Wenger’s one-touch attacking football, many more never believed that he was prolific enough when it mattered to fire the North Londoners to the biggest and best prizes in football.
That might’ve been true at the Emirates Stadium, but the 35-year-old certainly is good enough to win the sport’s biggest competitions – and he might be set to win another one.
Giroud, who joined AC Milan for £1.7 million last summer, is very close to helping the Italian giants win Serie A.
The Rossoneri are two points clear of Inter Milan with only three league games to go and if they’re successful, Giroud, who has nine goals in 19 Serie A starts this season, can count himself as an influential figure behind that success.
The former Arsenal hitman left Chelsea after a Champions League final victory over Manchester City last summer, having also won the World Cup with his country four years ago.
Overall, nobody can deny that Giroud has found massive success since leaving the Emirates Stadium and although he’ll still probably have his critics, his honours list – which includes a Europa League crown in 2019 – speaks for itself.
