Jonathan David is hardly making Leeds United regret not pushing the boat out to sign him this past summer.

The Premier League new boys were challenging Lille to sign the 20-year-old marksman in July [The Daily Mail].

And by virtue of the fact that he wound up in France, and Leeds signed Rodrigo instead, it’s clear that it was the Whites who backed off.

Fast forward three months and what a decision that looks like being by Victor Orta at the moment.

The Ligue 1 outfit wound up paying £27 million for the former Gent marksman [The Sun].

Thing is, David is yet to score in any of his 10 appearances for Lille across all competitions, meaning that as of right now, it looks like Leeds dodged a pretty big and pretty expensive bullet.

Some could argue that Rodrigo – who cost them £30 million – is hardly ripping up the Premier League as of yet either.

And that’s absolutely true, but it also must be noted that the Spaniard has been playing primarily as an attacking midfielder rather than a number nine due to Patrick Bamford’s red-hot form up front.

Even still, Rodrigo has a goal against Manchester City under his belt and will more than likely improve.

David will definitely get better too, but even if he bounces back and finishes the season with 15 goals in French football, it isn’t enough to make Orta and Marcelo Bielsa kick themselves.
