Marco Silvestri was second choice at Leeds United last season, should he have stuck around or did he just make a poor choice of next club?
Marco Silvestri quit Leeds United this summer after being snubbed by new boss Thomas Christiansen.
Felix Wiedwald’s arrival had Silvestri facing the possibility of being third choice goalkeeper, and he understandably decided it was time to go.
Last season Silvestri was second choice behind Rob Green, left to feature only in cup competitions, having been first choice regular for his first two campaigns at Elland Road.
He left Leeds to sign with Italian side Hellas Verona, who sit 19th of 20 teams at present in Serie A.
Their poor form has not been down to Silvestri… he has not got a look in.
Silvestri has not played a single minute at Verona all season, and has been left sitting on the bench behind Brazilian stopper Nicolas Andrade.
Now perhaps Silvestri just made a poor choice of club, but at present it seems he would have been better served sticking around at Leeds.
His departure meant Leeds needed to sign Andy Lonergan as back-up, and he has been thrust into the first team picture already with Felix Wiedwald faltering.
Silvestri is a better goalkeeper than both Lonergan and Wiedwald, and it seems both the club have gone backwards at the position, and the player is no better off either.
