Calcio Catania

Catania fans celebrating

Catania were founded in 1946 and the club enjoyed a successful spell during the late 1950s and 1960s when they rubbed shoulders with the Italian elite, twice finishing in eighth place in the 1960s. The Sicilian side folded in 1993 and fought their way back up from the Sixth Division. Things have looked up since 2004 when Antonino Pulvirenti, the owner of budget airline Windjet, took over and pumped money into the club.
