Everton boosted their midfield options on Monday by signing Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph.

Pep Guardiola has hailed Everton’s new signing Fabian Delph for helping him ‘a lot’ during his time at Manchester City.

The 29-year-old made the switch from the Etihad Stadium to Goodison Park on Monday evening, with the midfielder winning the domestic treble last season.

He will be hoping to take that winning mentality, his qualities, experience and leadership skills to Merseyside as the Toffees push for European football.

Following his departure, Guardiola shared nothing but classy words for the England international, as he wished him all the best at a ‘big club like Everton’.

“It was an incredible three years for us,” Guardiola told City’s official website. “Personally, he helped me a lot and helped us a lot, especially two seasons ago when we won the league with him playing in a position that he isn’t used to.

“Normally he is a midfield player, but he played full-back and everyone here, all the club, all the staff, all his mates wish him all the best in a big club like Everton.”

Delph made the switch to City from Aston Villa in 2015, but during Guardiola’s time at the club, he was used sporadically and as a utility man.

He played numerous games at left-back for the Premier League champions given the high-quality of midfield players they had at their disposal.

It now remains to be seen what Marco Silva will do with the player and whether he, if need be, will use Delph in defence.
