Burnley could do Liverpool a massive favour today if they beat Manchester City.

Burnley hitman Ashley Barnes has joked to The Daily Mail that Jurgen Klopp has promised to sign him if he boosts Liverpool’s Premier League title hopes today.

Liverpool thumped Huddersfield 5-0 on Friday to move two points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table, with two games to go.

Pep Guardiola’s side will reclaim top spot at Turf Moor this afternoon if they win, meaning that the Clarets could play a big role as to where the title ends up.

And Barnes has quipped to The Daily Mail that the Reds’ German manager has promised to bring him to Anfield in the summer if he derails City’s bid.

He said: ‘I know what winning the League means. All of us would go down in Liverpool history if we helped them out against City.

“Jurgen Klopp has even sent a sly text to say if I score he might sign me for next season.”

Klopp wouldn’t sign him, but the former Dortmund boss, along with every single person affiliated with Liverpool, would owe him a drink or four if he did score a goal which scuppered Man City’s attempts – and he might.

Barnes has scored against Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United in 2019, netting 11 times in total in the Premier League this season. He has form for scoring against England’s elite, though even a Burnley win wouldn’t guarantee the Reds success, but it would be a big step.
