Liverpool fans on Twitter were left raging after Neil Warnock threatened to play the youngsters when his Cardiff City side take on Manchester City on Wednesday night.

Following Cardiff’s defeat to Chelsea at the weekend, their outspoken manager controversially stated that he might ‘play the reserves’ when his team visit the Etihad Stadium, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.

The Reds moved two points clear of City at the top of the table on Sunday night when they beat Tottenham on home soil, but Pep Guardiola’s side can leapfrog them if they win their game in hand against the Bluebirds.

Therefore, it is understandable that the red half of Merseyside didn’t take too kindly to Warnock’s threat because it will basically give their rivals an easy three points.

However, Cardiff are facing a battle of their own because they are vying to stay in the Premier League and are currently sitting in the relegation zone.

Even if the Welsh club put out their strongest XI, they would struggle against City’s expensive team which is filled with world-class talent.

Either way, Liverpool supporters will be hoping Warnock can help the Reds in their quest to become champions because if they beat Man City then it will go down as one of the biggest shocks in recent years.

Here is a selection of Liverpool fans reacting to Warnock’s comments:

Pep Guardiola’s side are expected to beat Cardiff and they may even do it in style given the form they are in and the attacking players they have at their disposal.

But Liverpool, who have lost only one league game this season, can put the pressure back on the Manchester club this Friday when they take on Southampton.
