Wolverhampton Wanderers have been ‘privately mooted’ as a potential destination for Nicolas Otamendi as the defender considers his future at Manchester City, as reported by Goal.

The Argentine international arrived at the Etihad back in 2015, joining from Valencia for a fee of £32 million, according to the BBC. Since then, he has won five trophies including the 2018 Premier League title.

But Otamendi has slipped down the pecking order this season, starting just 14 league games with Pep Guardiola seemingly preferring Aymeric Laporte, John Stones and even the injury-prone veteran Vincent Kompany.

As a result, Goal reports that Otamendi is open to walking away from City in the summer with the 31-year-old hoping for more regular first-team football.

The former Porto defender is one of many top class footballers on the books of super-agent Jorge Mendes.

And Mendes’ links with Wolves means a move to Molineux appears to be on the cards with Goal claiming that Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have emerged as a potential destination.

Joao Moutinho, Ruben Neves and Diogo Jota are among the other Mendes clients on Wolves’ books, while Otamendi arguably played the best football of his career under Nuno at Valencia.
