Newcastle United reportedly made a January bid for Manchester City youngster Phil Foden.

Newcastle were one of the Premier League sides to see a January loan bid for Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden rejected, according a report from The Sun.

But despite Foden’s frightening potential, the Magpies fans on social media do not seem particularly disappointed by the fact that they seemingly missed out.

The Sun reported this week that Rafa Benitez’s side expressed an interest in taking the 18-year-old on loan, while Southampton and Bournemouth also made a move. However, Pep Guardiola turned down all bids for the teenager.

It turned into an encouraging window for Newcastle, with Miguel Almiron arriving in the final hours before the deadline and Antonio Barreca joining on loan for the rest of the season.

Had Foden been given the green light to move to St James’ Park, Benitez would have had a decision to make given that Salomon Rondon and Kenedy are already on loan from domestic clubs, so there was no space for the attacking midfielder unless the terms of one of those deals had changed.

But the Newcastle fans on Twitter have suggested that signing Foden would not have been worthwhile due to the emergence of Sean Longstaff.

Longstaff has been superb in the middle of the park this season, and several Magpies supporters believe that Foden would only be needed as cover for the 21-year-old.
