Pep Guardiola has been quoted by The Guardian as comparing League Two side Newport County’s pitch to Tottenham Hotspur’s Wembley surface, after Manchester City beat Spurs back in October.

Manchester City travelled south to take on Premier League title rivals Tottenham way back in October, with the game held at Wembley as Spurs continue to wait to relocate to their new ground,.

Riyad Mahrez scored the only goal of the game in the sixth minute but despite the win, Guardiola was scathing of the pitch at the time after two NFL fixtures were held at Wembley prior to the Premier League clash.

The Manchester City manager was asked if he was worried about Rodney Parade’s surface ahead of his side’s fifth-round FA Cup tie against Newport, and took a cheeky dig at Spurs in his answer.

“It’s up to us to adapt and we accept that challenge,” Guardiola said. “We have played on bumpy surfaces before in the Premier League, we had to play Tottenham at Wembley just after two NFL games had been staged there.”
