Joe Worrall is on loan at Rangers from Championship outfit Nottingham Forest but could Mark Warburton bring him to Premier League outfit Burnley?

Joe Worrall of Rangers looks on prior to the UEFA Europa League Group G match between Rangers and SK Rapid Wien at Ibrox Stadium on October 4, 2018 in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

There is little doubt that Steven Gerrard would love to tie down Joe Worrall on a permanent deal should the opportunity arrive.

The 21-year-old centre-back arrived at Ibrox on loan from Nottingham Forest in the summer and has wasted no time in establishing himself as a starter under Gerrard, the Liverpool legend describing him as ‘outstanding’ recently, as reported by the Daily Record.

But could Rangers’ hopes of keeping Worrall be tested by none other than Mark Warburton?

According to the Scottish Sun, the former Gers manager is set for a return to football with Burnley considering making him their new technical director. It is reported that Warburton would have a key role in recruitment at Turf Moor.

And that is where Worrall comes in. It was Warburton who turned the defender into a first-team regular after taking over as Nottingham Forest manager in the spring of 2017.

“He is an outstanding central defender and, give him time, he will be a Premier League talent,” Warburton told Forest TV (23 November 2017).

And, according to The Mirror (30 January) Burnley made two unsuccessful bids to sign Worrall in the January transfer window. And if Sean Dyche is still keen to sign the Englishman, the Warburton connection would certainly help.
