Glasgow Rangers signed Jon Flanagan in the summer, with the defender signing a two-year deal at Ibrox.

The deal to sign Jon Flanagan appeared to be one of Rangers’ slightly riskier moves over the summer, with the full-back barely playing over the previous four seasons due to injury and off-field issues.
Flanagan once looked destined to be a potential stalwart for Liverpool in the future after making 23 league appearances in the year that the Reds nearly won the Premier League title. But having lost his way, it appeared to be a bit of a gamble from Steven Gerrard to bring his old teammate to Ibrox.
But just a few months into his spell with the Gers, it not only appears that the deal to sign Flanagan was a fantastic piece of business but it may also already be time for the Light Blues to look into extending the defender’s contract.
As confirmed by the club’s official website when he arrived, Flanagan joined on a two-year deal. It was an indication that Rangers were probably not entirely aware of how well the move would prove for all parties.

But after his latest handful of performances, it appears that much of the doubt should now be gone. Flanagan is winning fans over with his full-blooded challenges and his willingness to get forward and cause problems in attack.
His performances have arguably been so impressive that the only thing that should stopping Rangers offering Flanagan fresh terms already is if they fear that he is still susceptible to potentially suffering another long-term injury.
But if that is not the case, then Rangers should waste little time looking to discuss a new contract with the full-back. His form so far suggests that he may be edging back towards becoming the player that Liverpool expected him to be when they came agonisingly close to winning the title four years ago.
