Sheffield Wednesday are one of a number of clubs credited with interest in the Chelsea centre-back.

Jos Luhukay has ruled Sheffield Wednesday out of the running to sign Chelsea’s Gary Cahill.
Sheffield Wednesday are one of a number of clubs – which include Aston Villa and Manchester United – credited with interest in Cahill, who is in the final year of his contract at Chelsea and could, according to reports, ask to leave in January if he cannot break into Maurizio Sarri’s plans.
Despite appearing on loan for Wednesday’s city rivals United earlier in his career, the recently retired England international grew up an Owls fan in Dronfield, on the outskirts of Sheffield.
But asked if there is any truth to reports of his side’s interest, Luhukay replied via Sheffield Wednesday’s official Facebook account: “(Signing Cahill is) absolutely not possible for us.
“I have never heard that before and I can give you an explanation: When I must bring new players for Sheffield Wednesday, I look not in that age (32), with all the respect of the player’s career or what they have done in the past.

“But I think the future of Sheffield Wednesday must be players from 19 to 23 (years of age). That must be the criteria for the future of Sheffield Wednesday in my opinion.
“That is maybe the best answer that I can give.”
Cahill is said to earn around £4.4 million a year (£85,000 a week) at Chelsea, who loaned another centre-back, Michael Hector, to Hillsborough at the start of the campaign.
